Retail space proposal for Gin Thye's new branding strategy.

Gin Thye Cake Maker situated at 423 Sembawang Road started baking Teo Chew pastries at their kampung houses in Bah Soon Pah for sale at the market in Sembawang since 1965.


Moving ahead with times, Gin Thye's plan to expand its products to a larger group of market. Their positioning lead them to engage SJ Design & Associates as their appointed agency to conceptualized a brand new retail space located in city centre.


Proposed Retail Space


The project consist of visualizing a retail space located at Fullerton Bay within the surrounding of Singapore's Central Business District. The retail space will position Gin Thye for a good exposure to a wider market of locals and foreign expats.

The project consists of works in conceptualizing the retail space as well as exterior front facade.

Chinese Geometrical Element

Geometrical Chinese motif is being used as the main element for the entire retail space. Formed using wood strips, the Chinese geometrical motifs are wrapped around the pillars coupled with red velvet wallpaper.


The central attraction for the entire floor space is the ingot that will be spray painted with rose pink gold. The ingot serves as a food and drink ordering and serving counter for the patrons.

The pillars are used as circular dining space for patrons to enjoy the pastries and other cakes.

When patrons walks into the retail space, patrons are greeted with combination of Oriental theme of black and red.

This project provides us an opportunity to work with Gin Thye to transform a classic Singapore heartland pastries maker to an upscale-market brand.
